At JRI Limited, we take your privacy seriously.
We are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us, in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and our obligations as a licensed Financial Advice Provider (FAP).
In this Privacy Policy, 'we', 'us' and 'our' means JRI Ltd.

What personal information we collect

In New Zealand, under the Privacy Act 2020, "personal information" means information about an identifiable individual.  We collect certain types of personal information about you, including:

  • information in relation to applications for, provision and administration of insurance, such as contact details, date of birth, employment details, health information, details of previous insurances and past insurance claims and criminal records;
  • financial, billing and invoicing information;
  • if you visit our website, we will collect personal information that you submit, such as via online forms; and
  • any other personal information you otherwise provide to us.

If you do not provide us with the information that we need, we or any of our third party service providers may not be able to provide you with products or services.

How we collect your personal information

We  may collect personal information in a number of ways, including:

  • directly from you via our website, telephone, in writing or by email; and/or
  • indirectly from third parties, where reasonably necessary and permitted by law, such as your employer, referees, insurers, creditors, premium funders and other third party service providers, or from publicly available sources relevant to the services we provide.

Where we collect personal information about you from a third party, we will do so for the purposes of providing you with the products or services you have requested, and we will take reasonable steps to ensure you are aware of that collection, unless an exception under the Privacy Act applies.

Our purposes for using and disclosing your personal information

We use and disclose your personal information for the purposes of providing our services to you and related purposes. Such purposes include:
managing, reviewing and advising on your insurance needs, risk profile and insurance portfolio, including making recommendations, arranging changes, renewals or replacements of insurance cover;
assessing and managing your insurance application and policy;
  • managing and processing payments and billing;
  • communicating with you about your insurance, our services, and matters related to the services we provide to you;
  • administering claims;
  • conducting service quality, client satisfaction or compliance-related research and surveys, where reasonably necessary to improve our services to you;
  • working with insurers and other service providers where reasonably necessary to arrange, administer or support the insurance services provided to you;
  • telling you about other services we offer that may be relevant to you, where you have consented to receive such communications or where otherwise permitted by law;
  • meeting statutory, regulatory or compliance reporting obligations;
  • internal or external audit, compliance monitoring, and quality assurance activities;
  • any other purpose notified to you at the time your personal information is collected; and
  • purposes required or permitted by law.

Disclosure of your personal information

We may disclose your personal information to:

  • insurers, reinsurers, other insurance intermediaries, insurance reference bureaus and industry bodies, where reasonably necessary to arrange, manage, administer or review your insurance;
  • assessors appointed by insurers to assess or investigate your claims;
  • others named on your policy as co-insureds, where relevant to the policy;
  • service providers engaged to provide services to you in relation to your insurance (for example, claims management or repairs);
  • third parties who assist us to operate our business and provide our services, such as payment system operators, IT service providers, lawyers, accountants, other professional advisers and financial institutions, where disclosure is reasonably necessary for those purposes;
  • any other entities notified to you at the time your personal information is collected; and
  • courts, law enforcement agencies, regulators and other government bodies, where required or authorised by law.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that third parties to whom we disclose personal information are required to protect that information and use it only for the purpose for which it is disclosed.
Other than where required or permitted by law, as described in this Privacy Policy, or where you have provided your consent, we will not disclose your personal information.
Nothing in this Privacy Policy prevents us from using or disclosing aggregated information that does not identify you.

Your obligations when you provide personal information of others

You must not provide us with personal information of any other individual unless you have the express authorisation of that individual to do so.  If you do provide us with such information about another individual, before doing so you:

  • must tell that individual that you will be providing their information to us and that we will handle their information in accordance with this Privacy Policy;
  • must provide that individual with a copy of (or refer them to) this Privacy Policy; and
  • warrant that you have that individual's consent to provide their information to us.

If you have not done this, you must tell us before you provide any third party information.

Your obligations when we provide you with personal information

If we give you, or provide you access to, the personal information of any other person, you must only use it:

  • for the purposes we have agreed to; and
  • in compliance with applicable privacy laws (including the Privacy Act 2020) and this Privacy Policy.

You must also ensure that your agents, advisers, employees and contractors meet the above requirements.

Accuracy, access and correction of your personal information

We take reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information we hold about you is accurate, complete and up-to-date. We encourage you to let us know if any of your personal information changes so that we can continue to provide our services effectively.
If you believe that any personal information we hold about you is incorrect, incomplete or out-of-date, please contact us using the details below and we will work with you to correct it.
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you and to request correction of that information at any time. We aim to respond to access and correction requests promptly and in a straightforward manner. We do not charge a fee for providing access to your personal information.
If, in rare circumstances, we are unable to provide access to specific information, we will explain the reason for this to you, in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act.

Security of your personal information

We take the security of your personal information seriously and use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect it from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
While no system can be completely secure, we actively monitor our systems and review our security practices to reduce risks and protect your information.
If we become aware of a privacy breach involving your personal information, we will assess it promptly and take appropriate steps to contain and mitigate any harm.
Where a privacy breach has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as soon as practicable, in accordance with the Privacy Act.
If you have concerns about the security of your personal information or believe there may have been a privacy issue, we encourage you to contact us so we can investigate and respond.
Updates of Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to amend our Privacy Policy from time to time to ensure we properly manage and process your personal data.

How to make a complaint

If you have a concern or complaint about how we have handled your personal information, we encourage you to contact us using the details below so we can try to resolve the issue promptly and fairly.
We will acknowledge your complaint and investigate it in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act.
If you are not satisfied with our response, or you prefer to raise your concern externally, you have the right to make a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner at https://www.privacy.org.nz/
